The MIC is not a stand alone programme, but is embedded in a network of universites, professional and academic networks.
The most important network is the Geert Hofstede Consortium, who developed the joint master programme.
The consortium universities work closely together to further develop, and deliver the programme and monitor its quality.
The associated partners are important academic and professional networks.
The affiliations are instrumental in the development of the programme. Without the financial support granted through the ERASMUS, Lifelong learning programme, it would not have been possible to create a pan-European programme.
The Clients provide many of the cases — problems to be analysed and solved and are also involved in the assessment of the work of the students.
Four universities across Europe, all specialising in communication and public relations in international professional contexts, offer the Master in International Communication. You will benefit from the collective expertise and international networks of the consortium partners.
Hanze University of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Groningen has more than 22.000 students. It offers some 60 four-year bachelor courses in education, sport studies, social studies, health, engineering and technology, economics and business, communication and media and fine- and performing arts. Also, about 15 master courses are offered in art, business and health. As a university of applied sciences, Hanze UAS maintains close relations with business, industry and not-for-profit institutions. Through its liaison bureau Hanze Connect, it offers tailor-made courses, consultancy and applied research to enterprises and institutes. Hanze UAS is actively involved in the internationalisation of curricula and exchange of students and staff with more than 300 partner universities, participating in European programmes and projects (often as coordinator) and in development cooperation projects (funded by the Dutch government).
Leeds Beckett University (LBU) is world-class regional university, using all our talents to the full. We are one of the largest universities in the country, with over 52,000 students and 3,500 staff. We have two contrasting learning environments in Leeds, one campus in the world famous sporting area of Headingley and one quarters of Leeds. Our campus in the splendid spa town of Harrogate leads the way in breaking down the barriers between business, further and higher education.
LBU is involved in many international partnerships across Europe and the rest of the world. This includes the delivery of bachelors programmes in Hong Kong as well as joint masters programmes in China and in Ireland. One area of expertise is the Centre for Public Relations, which supports the delivery of bachelors and masters programmes in public relations and communication.
IULM University was founded in 1968. From the very beginning the idea behind the project was to satisfy the demands of the labour markets based on analyses of current trends.
Throughout the years it developed two main educational pathways: Foreign Languages and Communication. Among the others, IULM offers courses in Public Relations and Advertising, Communication Science and Technologies, Communication Management in the Culture and Arts Markets. The Faculty of Communication offers second cycle degrees and masters, such as: Brand Strategy and Communication; Heritage and Cultural Events: Strategies and Communication; Management of Social, Political and Institutional Communication; Communication for the International Relations.
The oldest and largest Lithuanian higher education institution. Since its establishment in the 16th century, Vilnius University, as integral part of European science and culture has embodied the concept of a classical university and the unity of studies and research.
The Faculty of Communication at Vilnius University was created in 1991. The concentration of scattered study programs into one unit was stimulated by the wish to create and develop a basic framework for Communication and Information Science education and research in Lithuania. Today, the Faculty of Communication has as its main purpose to strengthen and fasten interdisciplinary studies and research in order to promote competitive and high quality education in the ﬁeld.
All members of the teaching staff are highly qualified academics actively involved in research and/or
consultancy activities for the professional field.
International joint programmes require intensive administrative support. The support staff of the consortium
are specialists in meeting the specific needs of those participating in international programmes and can draw from their years of experience.
Dr. Arnd Mehrtens has a PhD degree in Hamburg and studied DUEL in philosophy (Diplôme Universitaire d’Enseignement Littéraire) at University of Toulouse (France). His current main areas of research are New Institutional Economics, Behavioral Economics. His most recent publication is co-authored with Frank Jan de Graaf: How International Entrepreneurs Can Thrive on Social Responsibility. His is also a consultant in Business Ethics and Corporate Culture.
Dr. Astrid Berg has a PhD in Law from Utrecht University and has studied International Law in London School of Economics (LSE). Besides being a senior lecturer of the MIC, she also has duty as a member of the exam board.
Dr. Jeanine Deen graduated Ph.D in Intercultural Communication at University of Tilburg (Netherlands). She has had many publication in the field of intercultural communication.LinkedIn
Drs. Iekje Smit studied Dutch language and Literature at University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She is bilingual in Dutch and English language and can speak fluently French. Her main professional focus is the development of activities at Geert Hofstede Consortium, focusing on research and education in international communication & PR within transnational concept of higher education. Her specialties are International projects in higher education, specifically transnational collaboration.
Dr Ioannis Kostopoulos teaches PR Trends, Internal Communications and Research Method. Prior to his current position, Ioannis has taught Marketing and PR at several universities in the UK, in Greece and in Italy. Ioannis has more than 40 publications in peer reviewed journals such as Journal of Strategic Marketing, International Journal of Innovation Management and Managing Service Quality and prestigious international academic conferences, including the two leading conferences globally in the areas of Marketing (AMA and AMS conferences). His areas of expertise include services marketing, innovation, sponsorship and sports PR.LinkedIn
Dr. Liz Yeomans is principal lecturer and former subject group head for public relations and communications at Leeds Business School, where she holds responsibilities for research and ethics. Her teaching focuses on the social psychology of communication, research methods and employee communication. Among her achievements, Liz obtained funding for and led a successful Erasmus programme, Women in Public Relations in Europe in 2014. Liz's research interests include emotion work in PR (the topic of a monograph for Routledge, forthcoming); women and gender equality; fair internships in the communication industries; employee engagement and qualitative research in communication.LinkedIn
Dr. Martina Topić has a Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Zagreb, Croatia. She has two master degrees in Political Sciences and Journalism. She worked as a journalist in several print media in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, as well as entrepreneur where she has founded several companies in the past 10 years. As an entrepreneur she was responsible for management and marketing activities. Since May 2016 she works as a lecturer in Public relations at Leeds Beckett University.LinkedIn
Dr. Ralph Tench teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Salzburg where he has worked teaching a Masters course for the past six years. His research interests include corporate and strategic communication, corporate responsibility and public relations. He is also managing large scale transnational research projects such as the longitudinal European Communication Monitor (ECM) which is run annually (since 2007). Each year this involves an online quantitative survey of over 3000 practitioners across 46 European countries. He is also leading the ECOPSI EU funded project, the largest European funded public relations research project. This work is investigating the skills and competencies of European communications practitioners and has been supported by six European partner universities as well as the EACD (European Association of Communication Directors).LinkedIn
Robert Minton-Taylor is a senior lecturer in public relations studies at Leeds Business School with 22 years’ teaching experience. He has won or been nominated for 40 awards for his teaching and public relations work including the ‘John Richman Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the Seahorse Club for his services to the international maritime industry, ‘Outstanding Achievement by an Independent Consultant’, ‘Best International Campaign’ and ‘Best Non-Commercial Campaign’ for his PR work. Most recently he won a ‘Golden Robes’ award for his teaching from Leeds Beckett Students’ Union. But he credits his success to “the inspirational students and colleagues I have had the great fortune to work with.”
Rudiger Theilmann teaches modules in strategic communication planning, consultancy projects and intercultural communication. His main interest and focus is on international communication. He leads the Global Communication Project at Leeds Beckett University, in which students from 16 universities around the world develop communication campaigns for international clients such as the WWF.
Dr. Alessandra Mazzei is associate professor of corporate communication and public relations at IULM University of Milan. She is the coordinator of the internal communication laboratory at IULM University. Her research interests include corporate communication, internal communication, communication auditing, relationship management and corporate reputation management, as well as the communication of credence goods. In addition, she is also a visiting professor in Aarhus School of Business, Denmark.
Dr. Luca Bruscati has a Ph.D. in Management from Bocconi University, Milan (Italy). He is also a professor of Management & Scientific Coordinator of LAREM. Luca’s native language is Italian and he also can speak fluently English and Russian. His expertise is in Management Training; he has over twenty years’ experience in analysis and the design, delivery and evaluation of undergraduate, graduate, executive and faculty development programmes (such as distance learning).LinkedIn
