For the third time now, a Master International Communication (MIC) alumna won the prestigious EUPRERA award for the best master thesis in PR domain. The EUPRERA 2016 Annual Congress took place on the 29th and 30th of September and 1st of October in Groningen, at the Hanze UAS and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Alena Lakova’s thesis was chosen out of theses from over 40 countries and was recognised by well-established professors as outstanding and innovative.
The European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA), a body of academic institutions, researchers and senior professionals in the field of strategic communication with 500 members from 40 countries, has awarded professors and graduates for their excellent research in strategic communication at the EUPRERA annual congress in the Netherlands, on 1st of October.
Alena Lakova received the EUPRERA Master Thesis Award for Excellence, under the category of Practical Impact Award, covering the topic “Public Diplomacy and Nation Branding: Case Study of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2011 in View of the Upcoming Bulgarian Presidency in 2018”. She wrote her thesis under the supervision of our Hanze UAS’ senior lecturer, Dr. Astrid Berg. Alena Lakova wrote in her thesis about public diplomacy and nation branding and how they interact and diverse from each other. She explains about nation branding strategies and campaigns that form the image of a country that makes it attractive to its population and other countries. EUPRERA commented on the thesis as well written, argued, and referenced paper that also provided new insights about the communication field.
With her prize, Alena is the third student of the MIC to win this award. In 2013 and 2014, MIC alumni Grace Omondi and Beatriz de Urquijo Isoard won the same prize respectively, which earned them both a plague on the Hanze UAS Walk of Fame.
